We are in the final half term of the year and once again this year seems to have flown by.
We are extremely proud of the children in school; of the progress they have made and also in terms of the care and their attitudes to one another. Everyone who visits the school comments on how enthusiastic the children are and of their behaviour towards one another.
Our playgroups on an afternoon continue to grow with more people attending each week, and also our parent workshop each Tuesday. These will be continuing next year with hopefully even more to share with you all.
Thank you to you all for all your support this year, and to the staff team a huge thank you for all your hard work that makes such a difference to the children every day in school.
Remember to look out for the events that are taking place before the end of the term, and have a lovely summer holiday when we get there!
Welcome to all parents and children from the Early Years Team. The new children are settling in well and quickly learning our nursery routines.
This half term we are working on the topic 'Me and my world-Me and my friends'. We are making new friends, learning how to look after ourselves and each other. We will soon be starting our phonics activities where we are listening to different sounds and beginning to tell the difference between them. In Maths we are learning to count to 10 and singing lots of counting songs.
We are enjoying listening to different stories and have enjoyed joining in with them in class. We have also enjoyed using the Creative area to do our hand printing-come and see our pictures-we had a fantastic time getting our hands in the paint! We are also having lots of fun using all the outdoor equipment.
Thank you everyone for your support as always. The Early Years Team
It has been a wonderful half term and we can’t believe that the children are already going into their final term in Reception. We have been outside exploring the changes that happen in Spring, looking at the beautiful flowers and have created some lovely paintings! We also loved having our Mum’s in for Mother’s Day and enjoyed showing them our classrooms. We have found out about the celebrations of many different events, e.g. Holi and Pancake Day, learning about how people celebrate and joining in with these celebrations. We have been continuing to read and write simple sentences and working with numbers up to 10. After the Easter holidays, Miss Carter will be the Lion’s new class teacher and I am sure she will enjoy working with your children just as much as myself. I will miss them all and wish them all the best. Mrs Hayman.

As we come to the end of this half term I would like to congratulate Penguins on their resilience. We have worked so hard and they never give up or complain. We have been learning a lot about hot to keep ourselves safe on different forms of technology. The children are definitely SMART about being online. Can your child remember what each of the letters stand for? We have covered a lot in mathematics so far this academic year and we keep trying to go back and re-visit areas in preparation for SAT. The children have absolutely loved being a part of a Kirklees maths competition and guess what.... WE WON!!!!!!!! Well Done Penguins you made such an effort I am so proud! In literacy we have been looking at stories from other culture the children have particularly enjoyed learning all about China – the recipe writing was outstanding.

This half term our class topic was ‘Stories from other cultures’. The children have enjoyed learning about different countries, settings and all about hot and cold places. We looked at what type of clothes you would wear in a hot or cold place? Some of the things you might find in a hot or cold place? The children researched and had some lovely ideas. As part of our science work we looked at materials and the properties of different objects and the materials they are made from. We investigated the properties of different materials and considered their suitability. For example: when might we use a glass cup, or a plastic cup? In Maths we have been using a numberline to help us with counting back and forwards to support our addition and subtraction sums. We have also been recognising and learning about the properties of 2d and 3d shapes. In literacy we baked banana bread all the children said it was ‘yummy’ and ‘delicious’. It has been a busy half term with lots of special days!
